About Me: I have been working in the private practice field since 2018, primarily focusing on individuals. Prior to private practice, I worked in various counseling settings such as mental health hospitals and non-profit agencies. My areas of expertise include working with clients struggling with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, stress, life transitions, depression, grief/loss, bipolar disorder, anger and personality disorders. I am excited to join Compassion Centered Counseling and continue to help individuals on their journey.
Professional Development: I think it is extremely important to be able to meet my clients where they are in their journey to help them achieve their goals. As such, it is important that I continue to sharpen my skills with new education, trainings, and research. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which helps clients learn how to become aware and in control of their emotions as well as communicate their needs. I also recently completed my supervisor training and look forward to mentoring the next generation of counselors.
My Background: I was born and raised in Texas and lived in many of the larger cities here. I later took the opportunity to go and live in Maryland and Washington, DC for a time. I have learned over the years the importance of finding balance and setting goals for myself. I find balance with my home and work life through activities including hiking, barre classes, reading, puzzles and movies.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Texas State University and Master’s degree in counseling from Johns Hopkins University. I received my License as a Professional Counselor in 2015. Through my career, I have worked in many different clinician environments with diverse populations. I have experience facilitating groups and individual therapy in both outpatient and inpatient settings. In these settings, I also helped compile diagnostic assessments for individuals and provided community education around mental health.
What I love about my career: Life is hard. Making choices is hard. I enjoy helping people find inner strength to make hard choices and manage their lives. I provide clear and honest feedback to my clients while empowering them. I teach my clients how to use grounding exercises and mindfulness to manage their emotions and better navigate their lives. The most rewarding part of my career is to see my clients’ growth and change over time.
