About Me:

My professional journey began unconventionally as an engineer in the oil industry and later in information technology. After several years in these fields, I had the privilege of dedicating myself to raising two children into adulthood. Recognizing an opportunity to pursue a career I am genuinely passionate about, I returned to academia as a non-traditional student to earn a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. The profound impact of the pandemic on our collective well-being further fueled my commitment to this path. In my practice, I have witnessed firsthand the diverse challenges individuals face—be it managing anxiety, transitioning children into independence, preparing for retirement, coping with chronic illnesses, rekindling relationships, or navigating the complexities of personal growth.

My therapeutic practice focuses on assisting adults aged 18 and older as they navigate anxiety, grief, and significant life transitions such as gaining independence, becoming parents, experiencing an empty nest, or entering retirement. By employing a solution-focused approach, I emphasize clients' strengths and potential, guiding them toward their desired future.

In my work with couples facing challenges in communication or intimacy, I facilitate the development of effective communication strategies. This process involves fostering vulnerability, which can deepen the relationship. By helping couples understand their interaction patterns, I can introduce modifications that lead to improved communication and a healthier partnership.

Professional Development:

My training as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate emphasized systemic theories tailored to relational therapy. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have received formal training in the Gottman Method. I have plans on becoming more well-versed in other modalities such as Emotionally Focused (EFT) therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. I am dedicated to staying abreast of contemporary trends in relational therapy to serve my clients with the utmost competence and care.

Background:

Growing up in Houston as the youngest of three, I ventured across Texas to attend Texas Tech University. There, I found joy in performing with the marching band (Goin’ Band from Raiderland) and earned a degree in engineering. Later, my passion for understanding relationships led me to Abilene Christian University, where I pursued a Marriage and Family Therapy degree. This academic journey was particularly special as I shared the experience with my two college-aged children.

For 28 years, I've been married to my college sweetheart. Together, we've embraced the transition from parenting children to an empty nest, discovering new facets of our relationship. As part of the sandwich generation, we also navigate the rewarding yet challenging role of caring for our aging parents, finding growth and deeper connections in these evolving family dynamics.

Passion for My Career:

I firmly believe that many individuals endure silent struggles. I am dedicated to helping clients understand and enhance their communication patterns. For me, communication transcends the mere exchange of information; it is about forging connections, fostering understanding, and enriching personal and shared experiences.
